Product Overview

Important Note: This fan supportsOIR (Online Insertion and Removal). The switch can continue operating with two functional fans if one unit fails, but the faulty fan must be replaced promptly to avoid overheating risks. This module isnot compatible with C9300L fixed-fan models, Catalyst 3850, 9200 or 9400 series switches.

1. Variable-Speed Intelligent Thermal Control

   The fan dynamically adjusts rotation speed according to internal chassis temperature. Lower speed operation reduces acoustic noise under light load, while ramping up airflow during high-temperature or heavy PoE workloads. The module integrates built-in thermal monitoring sensors.
2. Front-to-Back Airflow Direction

   Standard airflow: cool air enters from the front panel, hot air exhausts out of the rear side where fan modules are installed. Matches all standard AC and DC power supplies for Catalyst 9300 platforms.
3. Hot-Swap OIR Support

   Technicians can remove and replace a defective fan module without powering down or rebooting the host switch, minimizing network maintenance downtime for campus and data center edge deployments.
4. Built-In Status LED Indicator

   A visible LED on the fan rear face provides real-time status:

• Solid Green: Fan operating normally
• Solid Amber / Flashing Amber: Fan fault, stall or hardware failure
  Switch IOS XE sends environmental alarm logs and SNMP traps upon fan failure events.

   Minimum of two working fans required for normal switch operation. If only one fan remains active, the system triggers critical thermal alarms and may initiate automatic shutdown to prevent hardware damage.
