Important Note: Do NOT confuse this unit with Catalyst C9300-FAN (for Catalyst 9300 campus switches). Its counterpartC9300-FAN2-Bprovides port-side intake airflow.Never mix fan trays with different airflow directions within one chassis. This hardware works on early-generation Nexus 9300 switches and is incompatible with newer Nexus 9300-FX/FX2/FX3 series.

1. Intelligent Variable-Speed Thermal Regulation

   The fan tray dynamically adjusts rotational speed according to internal chassis temperature. It operates at low RPM under light traffic loads to reduce acoustic noise, and automatically increases airflow during high-temperature conditions or heavy workloads. Built-in thermal sensors communicate real-time environmental data to the NX-OS operating system.
2. Port-Side Exhaust Airflow Architecture

   Airflow Direction: Port-side exhaust (Air intake: rear; Hot air exhaust: front port side). Visually identified by a blue pull tab. Ideal for data center racks deployed with hot aisle in front. Must be paired with port-exhaust power supplies for consistent thermal design.
3. OIR (Online Insertion and Removal) Support

   Technicians can replace a defective fan tray without powering off or rebooting the Nexus switch, minimizing downtime for mission-critical leaf-spine data center fabrics. Tool-free quick-release latch enables convenient installation and removal.
4. Integrated Visual Status LED Indicator

   Status LED on the fan tray provides local real-time monitoring:

• Solid Green: Normal operation
• Solid Amber / Flashing Amber: Fan stall, hardware fault or abnormal status
  NX-OS generates environmental logs and SNMP traps once a fan failure is detected.

   Supported Nexus 9300 chassis requires multiple fan trays. If one fan tray fails, remaining functional fans ramp up speed to sustain cooling. Administrators should replace faulty fans promptly to eliminate single point of thermal failure.
