Product Overview

Important Note: This fan module supports OIR (Online Insertion and Removal). The switch can continue running with two functional fans if one fails, but replacement should be arranged promptly to avoid overheating risk. It cannot be used on C9300L fixed-fan models, Catalyst 9200, Catalyst 9400, or Nexus 9000 data center switches. Do not confuse it with Nexus series fan trays named C9300-FAN2 / FAN3 / FAN4.

1. Intelligent Variable-Speed Thermal Control

   The fan dynamically adjusts rotation speed based on internal chassis temperature. It operates at low speed under light loads to reduce noise, and automatically increases airflow during high-temperature or heavy PoE workloads. Built-in sensors feed real-time thermal data to IOS XE.
2. Front-to-Back Airflow Architecture

   Airflow Direction: Front intake (port side) → Rear exhaust. This standard airflow matches all Catalyst 9300 series AC and DC power supplies for consistent thermal layout in wiring closet deployments.
3. OIR (Online Insertion and Removal) Support

   Technicians can remove and replace a defective fan module without powering down or rebooting the host switch, minimizing maintenance downtime for campus access networks.
4. Local Visual Status LED Indicator

   Status LED on the rear face of the fan module delivers instant status:

• Solid Green: Normal operation
• Solid Amber / Flashing Amber: Fan stall, hardware fault or abnormal status
  Upon fan failure, IOS XE generates environmental logs and SNMP traps for network monitoring systems.

   A minimum of two working fan modules is required for stable switch operation. If only one functional fan remains, the system raises critical thermal alarms and may trigger automatic shutdown to prevent permanent hardware damage.
