Product Overview

Important Note: This fan tray is chassis-specific. It cannot be interchanged with C9407-FAN (for C9407R) or C9410-FAN (for C9410R). The tray supports servicing from both front and rear of the rack. Operating the switch without an installed fan tray will trigger critical thermal alarms and can cause permanent hardware overheating damage.

1. Intelligent Variable Speed PWM Thermal Control

   Each internal fan independently adjusts rotational speed based on real-time chassis temperature, altitude and traffic load. It reduces RPM under light workloads to lower acoustic noise and accelerates airflow automatically during high thermal loads. It supports standard operating mode and NEBS-compliant fan profiles.
2. Side-to-Side Airflow Architecture

   Airflow Direction: Side-to-side airflow (intake from one side of chassis, exhaust from opposite side), the standard thermal design for Catalyst 9400 series modular switches. Optimized for enterprise wiring closet and data center hot/cold aisle containment deployments. Maximum airflow reaches minimum 640 CFM at full throttle.
3. OIR (Online Insertion and Removal) Support

   Engineers can replace the entire fan tray without powering down or rebooting the Catalyst 9404R switch. The tray features dual handles and captive screws for convenient tool-free installation and removal from either the front or rear rack side.
4. Front Panel Visual Status LED & Remote Monitoring

   Built-in status LED on the front face of the fan tray:

• Solid Green: All fans operating normally
• Amber / Flashing Amber: Individual fan stall, hardware fault or abnormal thermal status
  IOS XE captures environmental events, generates logs and sends SNMP traps to centralized monitoring systems when fan faults occur. Equipped with UHF RFID tag for automated asset tracking.

   Eight separate fans inside one tray. If a single fan fails, remaining working fans ramp up speed to sustain cooling capacity. Administrators should replace the fan tray promptly once any fan fault is detected to eliminate thermal risk.
