Important Note: This fan tray is chassis-specific hardware. It cannot be interchanged with C9404-FAN (for C9404R) or C9407-FAN (for C9407R). The tray supports service access from both front and rear sides of the rack. Running the switch without a properly installed fan tray will trigger critical thermal alarms and may result in permanent hardware damage caused by overheating.

   Each built-in fan dynamically adjusts rotational speed based on real-time chassis temperature, altitude and network traffic workload. Fans operate at low RPM under light loads to reduce acoustic noise and automatically increase airflow during high-temperature conditions. Multiple fan operation profiles are supported, including NEBS-compliant fan curves for carrier-grade deployment scenarios.
2. Side-to-Side Airflow Architecture

   Airflow Direction: Side-to-side airflow (right-to-left when facing chassis front), the standardized thermal design for Catalyst 9400 series modular switches. 3. OIR (Online Insertion and Removal) Support

   Engineers can replace the entire fan tray without powering off or rebooting the Catalyst 9410R switch. Equipped with dual ergonomic handles and captive screws, it supports convenient tool-free installation and removal from either the front or rear rack side to adapt to various cabling arrangements.
4. Front Panel Visual Status LED & Remote Environmental Monitoring

   Status LED on the front face of the fan tray provides instant local visual monitoring:

• Solid Green: All internal fans operate normally
• Solid Amber / Flashing Amber: Individual fan stall, hardware fault or abnormal thermal status
  IOS XE records environmental event logs and sends SNMP traps to centralized monitoring systems once any fan fault is detected. An integrated UHF RFID tag supports automated IT asset tracking.

   Sixteen independent fans are deployed inside one tray. If a single fan fails, the remaining functional fans ramp up speed automatically to maintain adequate cooling capacity. Administrators should replace the fan tray promptly after detecting any fan failure to eliminate thermal single point of failure risks.
