Product Overview

Important Note: All fans and power supplies installed within one chassis must share identical airflow direction. Do not mix C4KX-FAN-F (back-to-front) and C4KX-FAN-R (front-to-back) modules. This fan cannot be used on Catalyst 4500-E chassis, Catalyst 9000 series or Nexus switch platforms.

1. Intelligent Variable-Speed Thermal Regulation

   The fan dynamically adjusts rotational speed according to chassis temperature, altitude and network traffic loads. It operates at low RPM under light workloads to reduce noise, and automatically boosts airflow under high thermal conditions. Real-time thermal status data is transmitted to Cisco IOS for continuous monitoring.
2. Back-to-Front Airflow Architecture

   Airflow Direction: Rear (power supply side) intake → Front port-side exhaust. This reverse airflow design matches C4KX-PWR-750AC-F / C4KX-PWR-750DC-F power supplies, suitable for data center rack deployments with hot aisle located at the front of racks.
3. OIR (Online Insertion and Removal) Support

   Technicians can replace single faulty fan modules without powering off or rebooting the Catalyst 4500-X switch. Equipped with quick-release latch design for convenient tool-free installation and removal, minimizing network maintenance downtime.
4. Built-in Visual Status LED & Remote Monitoring

   Status LED on each fan module provides instant local status indication:

• Solid Green: Fan operates normally
• Solid Amber / Flashing Amber: Fan stall or hardware failure
  Once faults are detected, IOS generates system logs and sends SNMP traps to centralized network monitoring platforms.

1. N+1 Fan Redundancy Mechanism

   The Catalyst 4500-X chassis requires five fan modules. The switch can run temporarily with one failed fan, but redundancy is lost. If two or more fans fail, the system triggers critical thermal alarms and initiates protective shutdown. Timely replacement of defective fans is strongly recommended.
