Product Overview

Important Note: All fan modules and power supplies installed within one chassis must adopt identical airflow direction. Do not mix C4KX-FAN-R (front-to-back) and C4KX-FAN-F (back-to-front) modules. This fan cannot be used on Catalyst 4500-E chassis, Catalyst 9000 series or Nexus switch platforms. Mismatched airflow components will trigger system fault alarms.

1. Intelligent Variable-Speed Thermal Regulation

   The fan dynamically adjusts rotational speed based on chassis ambient temperature, operating altitude and network forwarding workload. It runs at low RPM under light loads to reduce acoustic noise and automatically increases airflow under high thermal conditions. Real-time thermal telemetry is sent to Cisco IOS for continuous environmental monitoring.
2. Front-to-Back Airflow Architecture

   Airflow Direction: Front port-side intake → Rear exhaust. This mainstream cooling design must be matched with C4KX-PWR-750AC-R / C4KX-PWR-750DC-R front-to-back airflow power supplies. It is optimized for standard data center cold-aisle rack containment deployments.
3. OIR (Online Insertion and Removal) Support

   Technicians can replace single faulty fan modules without powering off or rebooting the Catalyst 4500-X switch. Equipped with a quick-release latch for tool-free installation and removal, minimizing maintenance downtime for enterprise aggregation networks.
4. Built-in Visual Status LED & Remote Monitoring

   Status LED integrated on each fan module provides instant local status feedback:

• Solid Green: Fan operates normally
• Solid Amber / Flashing Amber: Fan stall or hardware malfunction
  Upon fault detection, IOS generates system logs and sends SNMP traps to centralized network monitoring platforms.

1. N+1 Fan Redundancy Mechanism

   The Catalyst 4500-X chassis uses five fan modules in an N+1 redundant configuration. The switch can temporarily maintain operation with one failed fan, yet redundancy will be lost. Timely replacement of defective fans is strongly recommended. If two or more fans fail, the system raises critical thermal alarms and may initiate protective shutdown.
