Product Overview
The Cisco WS-C6K-9SLOT-FAN is astandard-speed hot-swappable integrated fan trayexclusively designed forCisco Catalyst 6009 and Catalyst 6509 non-E 9-slot modular switch chassis. It is the baseline cooling assembly, while WS-C6K-9SLOT-FAN2 serves as its high-speed upgrade variant. The tray integrates multiple built-in fans delivering side-to-side airflow to cool supervisor engines, line cards, power supplies and all internal chassis hardware. Each Catalyst 6009 / 6509 non-E chassis supports only one fan tray slot.
Important Note: This standard-speed fan tray officially supportsSupervisor Engine 1 and Supervisor Engine 2 only. It cannot satisfy thermal requirements of Supervisor Engine 32 or Supervisor Engine 720; WS-C6K-9SLOT-FAN2 is mandatory for these high-performance supervisors. Individual fans inside the tray are not field-replaceable, the entire tray must be replaced once any internal fan fails. It is incompatible with Catalyst 6509-E enhanced chassis. Operating equipment without a functional fan tray triggers critical thermal alarms and may result in permanent hardware overheating damage.
