Cisco N7K-C7004-FAN Full English Description
Product Overview
The Cisco N7K-C7004-FAN is a hot-swappable integrated fan tray exclusively designed for theCisco Nexus 7004 (N7K-C7004) 4-slot data center modular switch chassis. It delivers side-to-rear airflow to provide comprehensive cooling for supervisor modules, I/O line cards, power supplies and all internal chassis hardware. The Nexus 7004 chassis requiresone single N7K-C7004-FAN unitfor normal operation.
Important Note: This fan tray is chassis-locked hardware and cannot be used on Nexus 7009 / 7010 / 7018 chassis or any other Nexus platform. Individual fans inside the tray are not field-serviceable; the entire tray must be replaced upon internal fan failure. If the fan tray is removed or suffers critical faults, the system initiates a 3-minute countdown and will shut down automatically to prevent permanent hardware damage caused by overheating.
Key Features
-
Intelligent Variable-Speed Thermal Regulation
The fan tray dynamically adjusts fan rotational speed based on real-time internal chassis temperature, ambient altitude and thermal load of installed modules. Fans operate at low RPM under light loads to reduce acoustic noise, and automatically ramp up airflow when temperatures rise. Real-time thermal status data is reported to Cisco NX-OS for continuous environmental monitoring.
-
Side-to-Rear Airflow Architecture
Airflow Direction: Air intake from the right side of chassis → exhaust toward chassis rear. This native airflow design aligns with Nexus 7004 mechanical layout, optimized for standard hot-aisle/cold-aisle data center rack deployments. Operators must avoid blocking the right-side intake vents to guarantee cooling efficiency.
-
OIR (Online Insertion and Removal) Support
Technicians can replace the complete fan tray without powering off or rebooting the Nexus 7004 switch. All access and maintenance operations are performed from the chassis front panel, enabling non-disruptive maintenance for mission-critical data center networks.
-
Front Panel Visual Status LED & Remote Monitoring
Built-in status LED on the fan tray front panel delivers instant local indication:
-
Solid Green: All internal fans operate normally
-
Solid Amber/Red: Fan fault detected
NX-OS generates environmental syslog messages and sends SNMP traps to centralized monitoring systems immediately once fan anomalies are detected.
-
Internal Fan Redundancy Design
Multiple independent fans are integrated within the single tray assembly. If one fan unit malfunctions, remaining functional fans accelerate automatically to maintain minimum cooling capacity temporarily. Administrators should arrange replacement promptly to eliminate thermal risks.
-
Data Center-Grade Reliability
Industrial long-life bearing fan assembly engineered for 24/7 continuous operation in enterprise and carrier data centers. Optimized to dissipate heat generated by high-density 10G Ethernet I/O modules and redundant supervisor engines.
Supported Hardware Platforms
-
Cisco Nexus 7004 Chassis (N7K-C7004)
Not compatible: Nexus 7009, Nexus 7010, Nexus 7018, Nexus 9000 series, Catalyst 6500 / 4500 series switches, all Cisco router platforms.
