Cisco N7K-C7010-FAN (N7K-C7010-FAN-S) Full English Description
Note: N7K-C7010-FAN is commonly referred to asN7K-C7010-FAN-S, the System Fan Tray for Nexus 7010. The separate fabric cooling tray part number is N7K-C7010-FAN-F.
Product Overview
The Cisco N7K-C7010-FAN (N7K-C7010-FAN-S) is a hot-swappable variable-speed system fan tray exclusively engineered for theCisco Nexus 7010 (N7K-C7010) 10-slot modular data center switch chassis. The Nexus 7010 chassis supports up to two redundant N7K-C7010-FAN-S system fan trays to provide forced front-to-back airflow for supervisor modules, I/O line cards and internal chassis components. ComplementaryN7K-C7010-FAN-F fabric fan traysare deployed separately to cool switch fabric modules. All fan trays are installed on the rear side of the chassis.
Important Note: This fan tray is chassis-specific hardware and cannot be interchanged with fan assemblies for Nexus 7004, 7009, 7018 or other Nexus platforms. Individual fans inside the tray are not field-replaceable; the complete tray must be replaced once any internal fan fails. Redundant fan tray deployment is strongly recommended. Extended loss of cooling capacity triggers thermal protection mechanisms to prevent permanent hardware damage caused by overheating.
Key Features
-
Intelligent Variable-Speed Thermal Regulation
The fan tray dynamically adjusts fan rotational speed based on real-time chassis internal temperature, operating altitude and thermal load of installed interface modules. Fans operate at low RPM under light workloads to reduce acoustic noise and power consumption, and automatically ramp up airflow under high-temperature conditions. All thermal telemetry data is continuously reported to Cisco NX-OS for environmental monitoring.
-
Front-to-Back Airflow Architecture
Airflow Direction: Front chassis intake → Rear chassis exhaust. This airflow design fully complies with industry-standard hot-aisle / cold-aisle data center rack layouts. Operators must ensure front intake vents and rear exhaust openings remain unobstructed to maintain rated cooling efficiency.
-
OIR (Online Insertion and Removal) Support
Technicians can replace the fan tray without powering off or rebooting the Nexus 7010 switch. All maintenance operations are performed from the chassis rear panel, enabling non-disruptive servicing for mission-critical core data center networks. ESD anti-static procedures are required during handling and replacement.
-
Rear Panel Visual Status LED & Remote Monitoring
Built-in status LED on the rear face provides instant local visual status:
-
Solid Green: All internal fans operate normally
-
Solid Amber/Red: Fan fault detected
NX-OS generates environmental syslog messages and sends SNMP traps to centralized monitoring systems immediately upon detection of fan anomalies.
-
Redundant Cooling Architecture Support
Nexus 7010 chassis supports dual deployment of N7K-C7010-FAN-S system fan trays. If one fan tray or internal fan malfunctions, remaining functional fans automatically accelerate to sustain temporary cooling capacity. Administrators should arrange replacement promptly to eliminate single-point thermal failure risks.
-
Data Center-Grade Reliability
Industrial long-life bearing fan assembly designed for 24/7 continuous operation in enterprise and carrier-grade data center core environments. Optimized to dissipate heat generated by high-density 10G / 40G Ethernet line cards, redundant supervisors and high-performance fabric modules.
Supported Hardware Platforms
