Cisco N7K-C7010-FAN-S Full English Description
Product Overview
The Cisco N7K-C7010-FAN-S is a hot-swappable variable-speedsystem fan traypurpose-built exclusively for theCisco Nexus 7010 (N7K-C7010) 10-slot modular data center switch chassis. It delivers front-to-back airflow to provide cooling for supervisor modules and I/O line cards. The Nexus 7010 chassis supports installation of up to two redundant N7K-C7010-FAN-S fan trays at the chassis rear. A separate fan trayN7K-C7010-FAN-F (Fabric Fan Tray)is required independently for cooling fabric modules.
Important Note: This fan tray is chassis-specific hardware and cannot be interchanged with fan assemblies for Nexus 7004, 7009, 7018 or other Nexus platforms. Individual fans inside the tray are not field-replaceable; the entire tray must be replaced once any internal fan fails. If adequate cooling is lost for an extended duration, the chassis activates thermal protection shutdown to avoid permanent hardware overheating damage. ESD protection must be followed during handling and replacement.
Key Features
-
Intelligent Variable-Speed Thermal Regulation
The fan tray dynamically adjusts fan rotational speed based on real-time chassis temperature, operating altitude and thermal load of installed interface modules. Fans operate at low RPM under light workloads to reduce acoustic noise and power consumption, and automatically ramp up airflow when internal temperatures rise. All thermal telemetry data is continuously reported to Cisco NX-OS for comprehensive environmental monitoring.
-
Front-to-Back Airflow Architecture
Airflow Direction: Air intake from chassis front side → exhaust toward chassis rear. This airflow design complies with standard hot-aisle / cold-aisle data center rack deployment standards. Operators must ensure front intake vents and rear exhaust openings remain unobstructed to maintain rated cooling efficiency.
-
OIR (Online Insertion and Removal) Support
Technicians can replace the complete fan tray without powering off or rebooting the Nexus 7010 switch. All maintenance operations are performed from the chassis rear panel, supporting non-disruptive servicing for mission-critical core data center networks.
-
Rear Panel Visual Status LED & Remote Monitoring
Built-in status LED on the rear face provides instant local visual status indication:
-
Solid Green: All internal fans operate normally
-
Solid Amber/Red: Fan fault detected
NX-OS generates environmental syslog entries and sends SNMP traps to centralized monitoring systems immediately upon detection of fan anomalies.
-
Redundant Cooling Deployment Support
The Nexus 7010 chassis supports dual deployment of N7K-C7010-FAN-S system fan trays. If one fan tray or internal fan malfunctions, remaining functional fans automatically accelerate to sustain temporary cooling capacity. Administrators should arrange replacement promptly to eliminate single-point thermal failure risks.
-
Data Center-Grade Reliability
Industrial long-life bearing fan assembly engineered for 24/7 continuous operation in enterprise and carrier-grade data center core environments. Optimized to dissipate heat generated by high-density 10G / 40G Ethernet line cards and redundant supervisor modules.
Supported Hardware Platforms
-
Cisco Nexus 7010 Modular Switch Chassis (N7K-C7010)
Not compatible: Nexus 7004, Nexus 7009, Nexus 7018, Nexus 9000 series, Catalyst 6500 / 4500 series switches, all 7600 routers and other Nexus data center platforms.
