Product Overview

The Cisco N9K-C9516-FAN is a baseline variable-speed, hot-swappable fan tray exclusively built for theCisco Nexus 9516 (N9K-C9516) 16-slot cloud-scale modular spine switch chassis. It provides front-to-back (port-side intake) forced airflow to cool supervisor modules, system controllers, fabric modules, and I/O line cards. The Nexus 9516 chassis supports up to three fan tray slots, and a minimum of two operational fan trays must be installed to maintain sufficient system cooling. N9K-C9516-FAN2 serves as its high-airflow Generation 2 upgrade variant for high-power fabric deployments.
Important Note: This fan tray is chassis-specific hardware.Mixing N9K-C9516-FAN and N9K-C9516-FAN2 within a single chassis is unsupported. Individual fans inside the tray cannot be serviced separately; the entire tray assembly must be replaced after internal fan failure. If more than one fan tray is removed simultaneously, the chassis will initiate thermal protection shutdown within minutes to avoid permanent hardware damage caused by overheating. Standard ESD anti-static procedures must be followed during module handling and replacement.

    Technicians can replace the fan tray without powering off or rebooting the Nexus 9516 switch. At least two functional fan trays must stay installed during replacement activities.
