Important Note: All fan trays and power supplies installed within the same FEX chassismust maintain identical airflow direction. Mixing forward (F) and reverse (R) airflow modules creates thermal imbalance, hotspots and risk of equipment overheating and shutdown. This fan tray integrates multiple independent fans. If one internal fan fails, limited temporary cooling remains active; the entire fan FRU needs full replacement upon tray fault. Standard ESD anti-static handling procedures are required during removal and installation.

1. Intelligent Variable-Speed Thermal Regulation

   The fan tray dynamically adjusts fan rotational speed based on real-time internal chassis temperature, operating altitude and thermal load. Fans run at low RPM under light traffic loads to reduce power consumption and acoustic noise, and automatically accelerate to increase airflow as internal temperatures rise. Thermal status telemetry is reported to the upstream parent Nexus switch running NX-OS for unified environmental monitoring.
2. Back-to-Front (Port-side Exhaust) Airflow Architecture

   Airflow Direction: Cool air enters from the rear side of the FEX chassis; hot air exhausts out of the front port panel. This airflow configuration suits rack deployments where the FEX port panel faces the hot aisle. Ensure intake and exhaust openings are not obstructed to guarantee rated cooling performance.
3. OIR (Online Insertion and Removal) Support
