Cisco N2200-FAN-R Full English Description
Product Overview
The Cisco N2200-FAN-R is a hot-swappable fan tray developed for Cisco Nexus 2200 Series 10GE Fabric Extenders (FEX).R = Reverse Airflow (Port-side Intake / Front-to-Back). Its direct counterpart model isN2200-FAN-F, which provides Forward Airflow (Port-side Exhaust / Back-to-Front).
Important Note: All fan trays and power supplies installed within the same FEX chassismust maintain identical airflow direction. Mixing reverse (R) and forward (F) airflow modules creates thermal imbalance, hotspots and risks of equipment overheating and emergency shutdown. This tray integrates multiple independent fans. If one internal fan fails, limited temporary cooling remains available; the entire fan FRU requires full replacement upon tray-level fault. Standard ESD anti-static handling procedures are mandatory during removal and installation.
Key Features
-
Intelligent Variable-Speed Thermal Regulation
The fan tray dynamically adjusts fan rotational speed based on real-time internal chassis temperature, operating altitude and thermal load of network traffic. Fans operate at low RPM under light workloads to reduce power consumption and acoustic noise, and automatically accelerate to increase airflow as internal temperatures rise. Thermal telemetry data is reported to the upstream parent Nexus switch running NX-OS for unified environmental monitoring.
-
Front-to-Back (Port-side Intake) Airflow Architecture
Airflow Direction: Cool air enters from the front port panel of the FEX chassis; hot air exhausts toward the chassis rear. This airflow configuration fits standard data center rack deployments where the FEX port panel faces the cold aisle. Ensure intake and exhaust openings are not obstructed to guarantee rated cooling efficiency.
-
OIR (Online Insertion and Removal) Support
Technicians can perform fan tray replacement without powering off the Fabric Extender or interrupting live data forwarding. Non-disruptive maintenance supports always-on data center server access fabrics. Operators must complete fan replacement within the chassis overheat protection timeout window.
-
Visual Status LED & Remote Monitoring
Built-in status LED provides immediate local status indication:
-
Solid Green: All internal fans operate normally
-
Solid Amber: Fan failure or over-temperature alarm triggered
NX-OS generates environmental syslog messages and sends SNMP traps to centralized monitoring platforms immediately once fan anomalies are detected.
-
Multi-Fan Internal Redundancy
Several independent fan units are integrated into a single tray assembly. Single fan failure does not cause instant complete cooling loss, but administrators should arrange FRU replacement promptly to eliminate thermal operational risks.
-
Data Center-Grade Reliability
Industrial brushless DC fan assembly engineered for 24/7 continuous operation within enterprise and cloud data center access fabrics, optimized for Nexus 2200 series 10GE FEX workloads.
