Product Overview
The Cisco ASR-9001-FAN-V2 is the upgraded second-generation hot-swappable integrated fan tray (FRU) exclusively designed for Cisco ASR 9001 and ASR 9001-S 2RU Aggregation Services Routers within the ASR 9000 Series. It serves as the direct upgraded replacement for the originalASR-9001-FAN V1. This fan tray adopts fixedside-to-side (right-to-left)airflow for chassis thermal dissipation and integrates multiple independent fan rotors to deliver redundant cooling capability. No reverse airflow variant is available for the ASR 9001 hardware platform.
Important Note: The ASR 9001 chassis supports installation of only one fan tray. OIR (Online Insertion and Removal) is supported starting with IOS XR Release 4.3.0 under defined ambient temperature limits. All replacement operations must be completed within 5 minutes after removing the fan tray; otherwise, the chassis may trigger thermal protection shutdown. Standard ESD anti-static handling procedures must be followed during installation and removal. This fan tray cannot be used on other ASR9000 series models including ASR9006, ASR9010 and ASR9900 routers.

The fan tray dynamically adjusts rotor rotational speed based on real-time internal chassis temperature, operating altitude and overall system thermal load. Fans operate at low RPM under light traffic loads to cut power consumption and reduce acoustic noise, and automatically accelerate to increase airflow when internal temperatures rise. All environmental telemetry data is uploaded to IOS XR for unified monitoring. Compared with V1 version, the V2 model optimizes fan control logic and improves long-term operational stability.

Side-to-Side (Right-to-Left) Airflow Architecture
Cool air enters the right side of the router chassis, and hot exhaust air flows out from the left chassis side. Maintain sufficient unobstructed clearance on both rack sides to avoid airflow blockage and prevent thermal hotspots.

OIR (Online Insertion and Removal) Support
Engineers can perform fan tray replacement while the router remains powered and forwards live traffic (supported on IOS XR 4.3.0 and later). Operators must strictly comply with the 5-minute maintenance time limit to avoid over-temperature protection shutdown.
