Product Overview
The Cisco ASR-9010-FAN-V2 is the second-generation, carrier-grade hot-swappable fan tray (FRU) exclusively designed for the Cisco ASR 9010 modular Aggregation Services Router within the ASR 9000 Series. It serves as a direct upgraded drop-in replacement for the legacyASR-9010-FAN (V1). The ASR 9010 chassis requirestwo identical fan trays installed together to deliver full redundant cooling capacity. This tray uses fixed native front-to-rear chassis airflow to dissipate heat for line cards, RSPs, fabric modules and power entry modules. No reverse airflow variant exists for the ASR 9010 hardware platform.
Important Note: Long-term coexistence of V1 and V2 fan trays inside one chassis isofficially unsupported. IOS XR Release 4.3.0 or later is required for full hardware recognition. All fan tray replacement operations must be finished within 5 minutes after removal to avoid chassis thermal protection shutdown. Standard ESD anti-static handling procedures must be followed during installation and removal. This fan tray cannot be deployed on ASR-9001, ASR-9006, ASR9900 series or other ASR9k router models.

Intelligent Variable-Speed Thermal Regulation
The fan tray dynamically adjusts rotor rotational speed based on real-time internal chassis temperature, operating altitude and overall system thermal load. Fans operate at low RPM under light traffic loads to reduce power consumption and acoustic noise, and automatically accelerate to boost airflow when internal temperatures rise. Compared with the V1 hardware, the V2 model optimizes airflow efficiency and thermal control algorithms to support high-power optics and high-density line cards. All environmental telemetry data is uploaded to IOS XR for unified environmental monitoring.

Front-to-Rear Airflow Architecture
Cool air enters from the front lower intake of the ASR 9010 chassis, and hot exhaust air discharges from the upper rear side. Maintain sufficient unobstructed clearance around rack ventilation openings to avoid airflow blockage and thermal hotspots.

OIR (Online Insertion and Removal) Support
Engineers can perform fan tray replacement while the router remains powered and forwards live traffic. Operators must strictly follow the 5-minute maintenance time window to prevent over-temperature protection shutdown.

Internal Fan Redundancy
Each tray integrates multiple independent fan rotors. If a single rotor fails, remaining fans supply temporary partial cooling capacity. Administrators should arrange FRU replacement promptly to eliminate thermal operational risks. The chassis requires two working fan trays to realize complete cooling redundancy.
