Product Overview

Important Note: This platform does not support mixing different fan tray variants without official validation. OIR (Online Insertion and Removal) is supported, and maintenance replacement must be completed within the thermal protection timeout window to avoid equipment overheating. Standard ESD anti-static handling procedures are mandatory during installation and removal. This fan tray cannot be deployed on ASR-9001, ASR-9006, ASR-9010 or other ASR 9000 series routers.

1. Intelligent Variable-Speed Thermal Regulation

   The fan tray dynamically adjusts rotor rotational speed based on real-time internal chassis temperature, operating altitude and overall system thermal load. Fans operate at low RPM under light traffic loads to reduce power consumption and acoustic noise, and automatically accelerate to boost airflow when internal temperatures rise. All environmental telemetry data is uploaded to IOS XR for unified environmental monitoring.
2. Side-to-Side (Right-to-Left) Airflow Architecture

   Cool air enters the right side of the ASR 903 chassis, and hot exhaust air flows out from the left chassis side. Maintain sufficient unobstructed clearance on both rack sides to avoid airflow blockage and prevent thermal hotspots. An optional air plenum accessory can convert airflow to front-to-rear if required by data center rack layout.
3. OIR (Online Insertion and Removal) Support

   Engineers can perform fan tray replacement while the router remains powered and forwards live traffic. Operators must comply with the official maintenance time limit to prevent triggering chassis over-temperature protection. After replacement, allow at least 2 minutes for the IOS XR system to complete hardware initialization.
4. Visual Status LED & Remote Monitoring

   Front-panel status LED provides intuitive local status indication:

• Solid Green: All internal fan rotors operate normally
• Solid Amber/Red: Fan fault or over-temperature alarm triggered
  IOS XR generates syslog entries and sends SNMP traps to centralized monitoring platforms immediately once fan anomalies are detected. The tray also supports external alarm interface.

1. Built-in Fan Redundancy
   Twelve independent fan rotors are integrated into one tray assembly. The system can sustain stable operation indefinitely if a single fan rotor fails. Administrators should arrange FRU replacement promptly to eliminate cooling vulnerability.

Note: A903-FAN standard model doesnotinclude a built-in dust filter; select A903-FAN-E if filter capability is required.
