Product Overview

Important Note: OIR (Online Insertion and Removal) is supported under IOS XE with ambient temperature limitations. Complete fan tray replacement must be finished within the thermal protection timeout period to avoid equipment overheating and shutdown. Standard ESD anti-static handling procedures are mandatory during installation and removal. This fan traycannot be usedfor ASR1002-X, ASR1002-HX, ASR1001, ASR1004, ASR1006 or any other ASR1000 router variants.

1. Intelligent Variable-Speed Thermal Regulation

   The fan tray dynamically adjusts fan rotational speed based on real-time internal chassis temperature, operating altitude and overall system thermal load. Fans operate at low RPM under light traffic loads to reduce power draw and acoustic noise, and automatically accelerate to increase airflow as internal temperatures rise. All environmental telemetry is uploaded to IOS XE for unified monitoring.
2. Front-to-Rear Airflow Architecture

   Cool air enters the front side of the ASR1002 chassis; hot exhaust air flows out toward the rear of the rack. Keep front and rear ventilation openings unobstructed to prevent airflow restriction and thermal hotspots.
3. OIR (Online Insertion and Removal) Support

   Engineers can perform fan tray replacement while the router remains powered and forwards live traffic. Operators must complete maintenance within the chassis thermal protection timer window to avoid emergency thermal shutdown.
4. Visual Status LED & Remote Monitoring

   Front-panel status LED delivers intuitive local status indication:

• Solid Green: All internal fan rotors operate normally
• Solid Amber/Red: Fan fault or over-temperature alarm triggered
  IOS XE generates syslog entries and sends SNMP traps to centralized monitoring platforms immediately once fan anomalies are detected.
