Product Overview

Important Architecture Note: The original ASR1006 chassis integrates cooling fansinside power supply modules. The ASR1006-FAN is the dedicated chassis fan tray accessory for supplementary thermal control. The ASR1006-X usesASR1000X-FAN, which cannot be mixed or substituted. This tray supports nativeFront-to-Rear airflowto cool Route Processors (RP), Embedded Services Processors (ESP), SIP/SPA modules and internal chassis components. No reverse airflow variant exists for ASR1006 platform.

Important Note: OIR (Online Insertion and Removal) is supported under IOS XE within specified ambient temperature limits. All fan tray replacement must be completed within the thermal protection timeout window to avoid over-temperature shutdown. Standard ESD anti-static handling procedures must be followed during installation and removal. This fan tray cannot be deployed on ASR1002, ASR1004, ASR1006-X, ASR1009-X, ASR9000 series routers, Nexus or Catalyst switches.

   The fan tray dynamically adjusts rotor rotational speed based on real-time internal chassis temperature, operating altitude and overall system thermal load. Fans operate at low RPM under light traffic loads to reduce power consumption and acoustic noise, and automatically accelerate to boost airflow when internal temperatures rise. All environmental telemetry data is uploaded to IOS XE for unified environmental monitoring.
2. Front-to-Rear Airflow Architecture

   Cool air enters the front intake of the ASR1006 chassis; hot exhaust air discharges toward the rear rack side. Maintain unobstructed ventilation clearance on front and rear to prevent airflow blockage and thermal hotspots.
3. OIR (Online Insertion and Removal) Support

   Engineers can replace the fan tray while the router remains powered and forwards live traffic. Strictly follow the maintenance time limit to prevent thermal protection shutdown triggered by insufficient cooling.
4. Visual Status LED & Remote Monitoring

   Front-panel status LED provides intuitive local status indication:

• Solid Green: All internal fan rotors operate normally
• Solid Amber/Red: Fan fault or over-temperature alarm triggered
  IOS XE generates syslog entries and sends SNMP traps to centralized monitoring platforms immediately once fan anomalies are detected.
