Important Note: This fan tray supports OIR (Online Insertion and Removal). Replacement must be finished quickly; prolonged removal will trigger router thermal protection and potential shutdown. Strict ESD anti-static procedures are required during disassembly and installation. This assembly cannot be used on Cisco 3825, 2800 series or any other ISR platforms.

1. Intelligent Variable-Speed Thermal Regulation

   The fan assembly automatically adjusts fan rotational speed according to real-time internal chassis temperature. Fans run at low RPM under light load conditions to reduce acoustic noise and power consumption, and speed up dynamically to boost airflow when internal temperature rises. All thermal status information is monitored and reported via Cisco IOS.
2. Front-to-Rear Airflow Architecture

   Cool air enters the router from the front panel, and hot air exhausts toward the rear of the chassis. Keep front and rear ventilation areas unobstructed to avoid restricted airflow and thermal hotspots.
3. OIR (Online Insertion and Removal) Support

   Field technicians can replace the fan assembly while the router remains powered on. Complete the swap rapidly to avoid over-temperature protection. After installation, IOS automatically detects and validates the fan hardware.
4. System Monitoring & Alarm Notification

   Router IOS continuously monitors rotation status of each individual fan rotor.

• Normal operation: Fans running within rated RPM range
• Fault state: System generates console syslog messages and SNMP traps if any fan rotor fails.

   Three separate fan rotors are integrated within one single assembly. If one fan fails, the remaining fans provide partial temporary cooling. Engineers should schedule immediate FRU replacement once a fan fault alarm appears to prevent unplanned outage.
