Product Overview

Important Hardware Note:ISR4351 fan tray supports limited hot-swap (OIR). Maintenance must be finished within 2 minutes while powered on; prolonged removal triggers thermal protection and risks hardware damage. Hot swap is not recommended above 1829 meters altitude. Strict ESD anti-static procedures are mandatory during maintenance. This fan tray cannot be interchanged with ISR4321, ISR4331, ISR4400 series or any other Cisco ISR / ASR router fan assemblies. Standard airflow direction isFront-to-Rear (bezel intake, rear port exhaust). Reverse airflow variants are not available for ISR4351.

1. Intelligent Variable-Speed Thermal Regulation

   The fan tray dynamically adjusts fan rotational speed based on real-time internal chassis temperature and ambient operating altitude. Fans operate at low RPM under light workloads to reduce power consumption and acoustic noise, and automatically ramp up speed to boost airflow when internal temperatures rise. All thermal telemetry data is monitored and reported via Cisco IOS XE.
2. Front-to-Rear Airflow Architecture

   Cool ambient air enters the chassis from the front bezel side; heated air exhausts toward the rear I/O port side. Maintain unobstructed ventilation clearance at front and rear rack sides to avoid airflow restrictions and thermal hotspots.
3. OIR (Online Insertion and Removal) Support

   Field technicians can perform fan tray replacement while the router remains powered and forwards live traffic. Complete replacement within 2 minutes to prevent triggering chassis over-temperature protection. IOS XE automatically detects and validates fan hardware status after installation.
4. System Monitoring & Alarm Notification

   IOS XE continuously monitors the RPM status of each independent fan rotor.

• Solid Green LED: All fan rotors operate normally within rated RPM range
• Solid Amber LED: Single fan rotor failure detected
• Blinking Amber LED: Multiple fan faults or fan tray removed
  The system generates console syslog messages and SNMP traps to notify administrators once fan anomalies are detected.
