Cisco FPR4K-FAN (FPR4K-FAN=) Full English Description
Product Overview
The Cisco FPR4K-FAN (official ordering PID:FPR4K-FAN=) is an individual hot-swappable rear-mounted fan module FRU engineered exclusively for theCisco Firepower 4100 Series Next-Generation Firewall Appliances (FPR4110, FPR4120, FPR4140, FPR4150). Multiple identical FPR4K-FAN modules populate the chassis to deliver forced-air cooling for CPU, processing blades, interface modules and internal power subsystems.
Important Hardware Note: Standard airflow direction isFront-to-Rear (Front intake, rear exhaust). Reverse airflow variants are not available for Firepower 4100 series. This fan module supports OIR (Online Insertion and Removal). Complete replacement within3 minutes; prolonged empty fan slot operation risks thermal protection shutdown. Strict ESD anti-static procedures are mandatory during maintenance. FPR4K-FAN cannot be interchanged with FPR1K-FAN, FPR2K-FAN, FPR9K-FAN or fan modules for ISR routers and Nexus switches.
Key Features
-
Intelligent Variable-Speed Thermal Regulation
Each fan module dynamically adjusts rotor speed based on real-time internal chassis temperature and ambient altitude. Fans operate at low RPM under light workloads to reduce power draw and acoustic noise, and automatically ramp up to full speed to boost airflow during high-temperature conditions. All thermal telemetry is monitored via FXOS, FTD or ASA operating systems.
-
Front-to-Rear Airflow Architecture
Cool air enters the firewall chassis from the front bezel side, and heated air exhausts out the rear panel where fan modules are installed. Maintain unobstructed front and rear rack ventilation space to avoid airflow restrictions and thermal hotspots.
-
OIR (Online Insertion and Removal) Support
Field technicians can replace individual fan modules while the firewall remains powered and forwards live traffic. Replace one module at a time and finish the operation within 3 minutes. When a fan module is removed or fails, remaining active fans automatically run at maximum speed to compensate cooling capacity. FXOS automatically detects and validates newly installed fan modules.
-
System Monitoring & Alarm Notification
FXOS continuously monitors fan rotation status on every individual module.
-
Solid Green LED: Fan module operates normally within rated RPM
-
Solid Amber LED: Fan rotor fault detected
The system generates console syslog messages, FMC alerts and SNMP traps to notify administrators upon fan failures.
-
N+1 Redundant Cooling Architecture
Firepower 4100 chassis uses multiple independent FPR4K-FAN modules to implement N+1 redundancy. Single fan module failure allows temporary continued operation. Network engineers must arrange immediate FRU replacement once fault alarms are triggered to eliminate long-term overheating risks.
-
Data Center & Carrier-Grade Reliability
High-performance industrial brushless DC fans designed for 24/7 continuous operation in data center security gateways, multi-tenant service provider environments and enterprise high-availability security deployments.
