| Product Description |
Cisco FPR9K-FAN (FPR9K-FAN=) Full English Description
Product Overview
The Cisco FPR9K-FAN (official spare ordering PID:FPR9K-FAN=) is a hot-swappable rear-mounted fan module FRU engineered exclusively for theCisco Firepower 9300 (FPR9300) Modular Security Chassis (Firepower 9000 Series). The 3RU chassis accommodates four identical FPR9K-FAN modules to deliver forced-air cooling for supervisor, security service modules (SM series), midplane, power subsystems and high-performance processing hardware.
Important Hardware Note: Fixed airflow direction isFront-to-Rear (cold aisle intake at front, hot aisle exhaust at rear). No reverse airflow variant is offered for Firepower 9300. This module supports OIR (Online Insertion and Removal). Complete fan replacement rapidly; empty fan slots must not remain open for extended periods to prevent thermal protection shutdown. Strict ESD anti-static procedures are required during maintenance. FPR9K-FAN cannot be interchanged with FPR4K-FAN, FPR2K-FAN, FPR1K-FAN or fan assemblies for ISR routers and Nexus switches.
Key Features
-
Intelligent Variable-Speed Thermal Regulation
Each fan module dynamically adjusts rotor rotational speed based on real-time internal chassis temperature and operating altitude. Fans operate at low RPM under light workloads to reduce power consumption and acoustic noise, and automatically ramp up to full speed to boost airflow when temperatures rise. All thermal telemetry data is monitored and reported via FXOS, FTD or ASA operating systems.
-
Front-to-Rear Airflow Architecture
Cool ambient air enters the chassis from the front bezel cold aisle side, and heated air exhausts out of the rear panel where fan modules are installed. Maintain unobstructed ventilation space at front and rear rack sides to avoid airflow blockage and thermal hotspots.
-
OIR (Online Insertion and Removal) Support
Field technicians can replace individual fan modules while the security chassis remains powered and continues forwarding traffic. Only replace one fan module at a time. After module removal, remaining operational fans automatically increase speed to compensate cooling capacity. FXOS automatically detects and validates newly installed fan hardware after insertion.
-
System Monitoring & Alarm Notification
FXOS continuously monitors the rotation status of each fan rotor inside every module.
-
Solid Green LED: Fan module operates normally within rated RPM range
-
Blinking Amber LED: Fan rotor fault detected
The system generates console syslog messages, FMC alerts and SNMP traps to notify administrators immediately once fan anomalies are detected.
-
N+1 Redundant Cooling Architecture
Firepower 9300 chassis utilizes four independent FPR9K-FAN modules to implement redundant cooling. Single fan module failure allows temporary continuous operation. Network engineers must arrange immediate FRU replacement upon receiving fault alerts to eliminate long-term overheating risks for mission-critical security workloads.
-
Carrier & Data Center-Grade Reliability
High-performance industrial brushless DC fans designed for 24/7 continuous operation in large-scale data center security gateways, service provider backbone environments, high-throughput firewall clusters and low-latency threat prevention deployments.
Supported Hardware Platforms
-
Cisco Firepower 9300 Modular Security Appliance (FPR9300)
Not compatible: Firepower 4100, 2100, 1000 series, ISR routing platforms, Catalyst / Nexus switching hardware.
Typical Application Scenarios
-
Mission-critical data center internet edge, multi-tenant threat prevention and clustered firewall deployments running FXOS/FTD/ASA on Firepower 9300 chassis
